Our History

Tracing Our Journey

The Journalist and Media Association (JMA) was founded in 2020 in Kerala, India, by Vysakh Suresh, who continues to serve as its President. JMA was established in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to address the growing need for a unified body to represent media professionals in an evolving landscape.

From its inception, JMA has been at the forefront of advocating for journalists' rights, ensuring their safety, and promoting a media environment free from external pressures. Over the years, we've grown into a nationwide organization with members in every state and union territory.

    Empower, Protect, and Unite journalists

    Our Mission

The Journalist and Media Association (JMA) is deeply committed to fostering a vibrant, ethical, and free media landscape across India. Our core mission outlines the principles and actions that guide our daily work: we empower journalists by providing comprehensive support, training, and resources to enhance their skills, ensure their safety, and foster professional growth.

Beyond empowering individuals and upholding ethics, JMA vigorously protects press freedom in India, advocating for journalists' rights and welfare while actively resisting any attempts to restrict their ability to report without fear or favor. Ultimately, our mission is to ensure that the media effectively serves as a vital pillar of democracy, providing diverse perspectives, holding power accountable, and keeping the public informed on issues of national importance.
